Remember all those classic games you used to play, Like your NES/SNES and Nintendo64? Wish you could replay them? Well you can! And here is a basic tutorial on how to.
Step 1. Figure out what system you want to emulate. I will be using the Nintendo 64
Step 2. Get the emulator. This is a great site for emulators. Find the one you want(Again I’m using N64 as my example) and click the link on the left. It will take you to a page describing the system and requirements. Scroll down a little and you come to the emulators.
Step 3. Select your emulator. Read the description under each emulator. Some will say certain things like ” does not work well on slower computers.” After that pick which one suits you. I would usually go for the top rated one(I am going to use Project 64). Then download.
Note: I made a folder on my desktop to keep it organized.
Step 4. Now we extract the file. Go to wherever you saved it. And double click the “.exe” file. On mine it brought up the installer.
Just go through it like any other installation. When it’s done all the files should be extracted, but we can’t yet. We still need the Roms(Read only memory file).
Step 5. Getting the roms. Before we go downloading any roms we need to make a rom folder in the folder where all files we just extracted are.
Now We can download the roms.
Here are some good sites for roms:
http://www.rom-world.com/
http://doperoms.com/
http://www.dgemu.com/ requires registration
Now we find and download our rom. I will be getting legend of Zelda ocarina of time off of Doperoms. Now download the rom to your ROMS folder.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO EXTRACT THE ZIP FOLDERS.
Last Step Now we play! Open your emulator “.exe”(not the setup) and goto open rom. Navigate to your rom folder and select your rom’s zip.
Click open and play!
Now you have successfully installed an emulator and played a game on it.
